    The town was named for Abingdon, England. It is the site of the first Methodist College in the U.S. Former names of this community include Collett’s Neck and Paca’s Park.     Also located nearby is Hart-Miller Island State Park. This park is on 244 acres and camping, picnicking, fishing, swimming and hiking are enjoyed by many. In addition, Elk Neck State Park, North Point State Park and Susquehanna State Park provides residents with access to the great outdoors for a variety of recreation.
